A beginner will start by playing and finding keys on the piano and learning their names together with a tutor book that teaches how to read music little by little. I will also incorporate finger exercises and short scales leading to introducing scales and arpeggios at the beginning of each lesson after some time in their studies.
We then work through appropriate piano pieces that the student will be expected to practice everyday and play at each lesson. I also introduce aural work on pitching notes and singing small phrases, and clapping the rhythm in time with a beat. This all happens over time as the student progresses and I like to encourage the student to listen to all sorts of music that is linked to what they are playing along the way.
