Georgina Laye

Hi! I'm Ginny and I am currently offering tuition in GCSE English, both language and literature across all boards.
I’m a graduate of the University of Cambridge, where I studied Modern and Medieval Languages, and am now an independent researcher in literary studies. I’ve been tutoring for about ten years now - both in schools and privately. All told, I love language and literature and I’ve got plenty of experience to back it up.

Above all, I love sharing my love of words with my students. My tutoring style involves lots of reading, lots of revision and lots of (admittedly bad) puns. Together, we can work through the layers of your set texts (I love teaching all the set texts I cover, but I particularly enjoy teaching Shakespeare!). Or, if your spelling and grammar need a little TLC, we can tackle everything from those apostrophes to those tricky semi-colons and commas.

More importantly, I am empathetic to the needs of students. Each of my sessions is be planned and delivered according to the needs of the individual student. It’s really important to me that my students and their parents feel that they are in charge of their learning - something that is sometimes lost in the crowdedness of many classrooms. Having been a shy and anxious student myself, I have first hand experience of how daunting exams can seem to students and how to develop strategies to overcome confidence issues - something that we work to tackle in my lessons.
