I teach GCSE Maths one-to-one. I start by finding exactly where a student's gaps are. I then build lessons around past exam questions, the exam board specification and how the student best learns. As I work closely with the specification, everything ties back to what will actually come up on the paper. I'll often explain a concept a few different ways as some students find certain methods easier and knowing different ways to approach questions can help with having a strong understanding of the content and different exam questions can be made easier with different methods.

Most lessons will follow a format of taking an area the student struggled with in a recent in school assessment, lesson or homework and then explaining it so they understand how and why it works how it does and then getting some practice on exam questions. I will also often do reviews at the end of each session to make sure they feel more confident and what I could do to make lessons even more effective.

I got a grade 9 in GCSE Maths myself with more than 25 marks above the grade 9 boundary. I've already helped several friends move from grades 4–5 up to 7s and others move from 1s and 2s all the way up to 4s, so I have a strong sense of where things typically go wrong and what students tend to struggle with alongside how to put it right.
