My advert description lays out two basic approaches for students: 1) For me to guide your through the requirements of a given course - e.g. GCSE. This may involve my having to gather information about the exam board and the course specification, which would fall under our early 'consultation' conversation, where I am basically finding out what you require.

2. Alternatively to working through a course specification in the orthodox manner, 1:1 tuition offers the opportunity for a more bespoke approach whereby we can focus upon any aspects of 'English' or the student's choosing. I appreciate, of course, that students will vary in their awareness fo their own strengths and areas of challenge as well as on what they might best focus upon -- but it is precisely part of the role of an effective tutor to help you identify this, and this kind of discussion would definitely feature in our early 'consultation' conversation, where we would be exchanging and exploring what you are seeking and what I have to offer. Very generally, if you consider the whole subject of English as falling under a 4 x 4 'multiplicative grid' for the four levels of language ('sub-word', 'word', 'sentence' and 'text') X the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) that just about any conceivable problem of issue in 'English' can be identified -- and addressed -- in these terms.
