I am a passionate, adaptable and friendly tutor with vast experience studying and teaching English. I'm currently pursuing BA English Literature at the University of Sheffield. Before that, I achieved a grade 9 in English Language and an 8 in English Literature at GCSE-level, and taught English to students in Tanzania.
I can teach online, at-home or in-person, and my teaching style is centred on clear, encouraging communication with each student. My lesson plans are tailored to each student's individual needs, but my preference is for each one to be interactive, hands-on, and to nurture the student's creative sensibilities to get them engaged with the text. This may involve asking questions about the text, writing a story in the style of the author/in the narrative, acting out scenes or other creative exercises. I firmly believe that in order to get the best out of a student, you need to engage with them, and rather than simply telling them what the author's intention was or what an extract means, you need to give them the tools and the space to discover this themselves. Most importantly, I want each student to come up with their own ideas and develop their own voice as writers and thinkers.
In addition, I have a clean DBS check, can easily commute anywhere across the Sheffield area (my profile says £5 for travel charges but, in actuality, I will only add on the direct cost of bus or train travel to my fee) and I'm more than happy to adapt my lessons to meet your or your child's needs.
