I have been a maths tutor since my school days.
During my studies at University I helped children with basic math, and was also a tutor for discrete Mathematics. Here I helped students with their course work, as well as teach them computer skills to help with their studies.
In my One-to-one sessions I lead with empathy and encouragement, since I know how difficult and complex math can be for people. Most of my students come from a place where they don't understand what exactly it is they don't understand. I try to simplify and explain concepts in a conversational way. Most students are very quickly surprised about their own capability. That's what I want them to remember after each session. Every win brings joy and encourages them to learn and grow.
The way I teach changes with every students needs. Some need words, others drawings and diagrams, and some need to see the thought process that goes into solving a problem.
