This makes it clear the reasons for employing the method and gives a good understanding of why the method is actually being employed and not just what the method in. This will greatly help when exams or assignments throw curve balls where the question doesn't match one you have seen before. Whilst others struggle you will be able to employ your deeper understanding of the topic to approach novel questions and applications.
