My teaching style is calm, structured and highly personalised. Having tutored for over 13 years alongside my studies at Imperial and my DPhil (PhD) at Oxford – I’ve learned that students progress fastest when they feel both supported and challenged. I always aim to create a space where they can ask questions freely, make mistakes without anxiety, and gradually take ownership of their learning.
My philosophy is to build deep understanding first, then exam performance. In subjects like Biology, Chemistry and Maths, I focus on simplifying complex ideas and showing how topics connect, rather than presenting them as isolated facts. I use diagrams, analogies, step-by-step explanations and lots of questioning to help students articulate their thinking. Once the core concepts “click”, we move towards exam-focused practice: decoding command words, using the right key terms, structuring full-mark answers and working through past papers in a systematic way.
Every student is different, so I begin by identifying strengths, gaps and goals, and then tailor lessons accordingly. I place a strong emphasis on open communication and feedback, students are encouraged to be honest about what they find difficult, and I regularly review progress and next steps with them (and, where appropriate, with parents).
My experience as an Oxford University tutor and admissions interviewer has also shaped my approach. I’m used to stretching high-achieving students towards Oxbridge and Medicine, as well as supporting those who lack confidence or have significant gaps in knowledge, including EAL learners and international students adapting to the UK system. In all cases, my aim is the same: to help students build solid foundations, effective study habits and genuine confidence, so that good grades are a natural outcome of the way they think and work.
