Erin Jordan

Hi there! I am a lecturer/tutor with 20+ years of experience teaching at many levels within the Scottish education system, from basic literacy tuition to community and further education and at undergraduate level. While primarily teaching Sociology and Criminology, I have also developed and delivered confidence building, study skills and employment skills courses. I completed TEFL in 2023 and taught English one-on-one until October of that year.
Having largely taught face-to-face, during Covid19 I learned how to navigate and exploit online teaching platforms and resources that have, in turn, allowed me to explore innovative and exciting means and techniques of communication in teaching. They enabled me to develop imaginative ways of connecting and interacting with students online to overcome barriers of physical distance.
My teaching approach is about valuing my students as individuals, and the belief that interaction, inclusion and participation are key to the learning journey. I use a variety of teaching methods, materials and media in order to make lessons interesting and stimulating, and also to cater to diverse learning styles. Classes are student led, structured around the needs, aims and objectives of individual students, with an emphasis on showing and clarifying rather than telling. The pace of learning is likewise based on the needs and aims of individual students as far as possible, with progress regularly assessed and discussed. Students are invited to offer feedback regularly and often in order to ensure positive learning experiences as well as positive learning outcomes.
