Additionally, learning about French culture, slang, idioms, history, dialects etc., is a huge part of linguistic inquiry. Ultimately, our language is shaped by our society and its past, so a level of knowledge that intertwines both history and language is priceless. As a double major in Linguistics and History, I believe that I am uniquely well suited to provide this experience.
I understand that things like conjugations, indirect pronouns and the subjunctive can be sticking points for some learners, so I am eager to provide lessons that dive into a particular grammatical features of French. I will use real world examples, in context, to explain these features. We can read real French articles, listen to real French music, all in the aim of understanding how French is *actually* used.
A lot of high school and college courses treat language learning as a series of memorization tasks. Contrary to this, for me, language learning is about repetition and context - we need to understand the syntax and phrases in which words are used and then we need to see these words reappear, each time becoming more understood by us.
