Hi,
I’m Emma, and I’d love to be considered for an English tutoring role.
I grew up multilingual so I know firsthand what it’s like to navigate between languages as a child. That experience has shaped how I think about teaching: I don’t believe in drilling grammar rules at kids and hoping something sticks. I believe children learn language best when they’re genuinely engaged, through stories, conversation, drawing, games, and making things together.
Academically, I’m finishing a BSc in Sociology and Language at LSE, where I’ve studied how language works in social contexts. This gives me a genuine understanding of how language functions, not just how to correct it.
I’ve worked as a published writer and content manager at LSE, so I’m comfortable with the written side too, structuring essays, giving feedback on writing, and helping students develop their own voice.
In the past, I’ve also worked at a play centre, so I’m used to being around kids of different ages and energy levels. It taught me a lot about how to hold their attention, adapt on the fly, and keep things fun while still being structured. I think that kind of instinct matters just as much in a lesson as any teaching technique.
Whether your students are just starting out with English or need help with reading, writing, and confidence, I’d tailor each session to what they actually need. I’m patient, I’m creative, and I genuinely enjoy working with young people.
