About me

My lessons are tailored to each child—I take time to understand where they are in their learning and what will help them move forward. Every session starts with a quick review of previous learning. This helps build confidence and lets me check in on how things are going before we move on.

My lessons are tailored to each child—I take time to understand where they are in their learning and what will help them move forward. Every session starts with a quick review of previous learning. This helps build confidence and lets me check in on how things are going before we move on.

The heart of the lesson focuses on one key skill or concept. I break things down into small, manageable steps and explain them clearly. I use a mix of tools—visuals, interactive games, whiteboard activities (especially online), and open-ended questions—to keep things lively and make sure the child stays engaged.

We always finish with a short recap or a quick task to check how well the learning has stuck. I often suggest optional follow-up activities for extra practice at home, especially if a child is keen to keep going.

I draw on Curriculum for Excellence benchmarks and proven classroom strategies. I’ve taught across different stages and schools, working with a wide range of learners, including children with additional support needs.

Above all, I want every child I work with to feel successful, enjoy their learning, and see the progress they’re making.

We’ve had such a wonderful experience with Emma. She’s been incredibly patient, kind, and supportive in helping my son develop his reading skills. From the very beginning, she took the time to understand his needs and learning style, and adapted her approach to make reading engaging and fun for him. I’ve seen such a positive change not only in his reading ability but also in his confidence and attitude toward learning. Emma created a safe and encouraging space where he felt comfortable asking questions and trying new things without fear of making mistakes. I’m so grateful for her dedication and genuine care—it truly made all the difference. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Emma to any family looking for a thoughtful, skilled, and inspiring tutor.
