My tutoring method is geared towards securing the best possible grades by fixing the two key areas of understanding which, in my experience, need attention: the student's knowledge base, and the student's understanding of exam technique. I first assess the student's existing understanding of their course content, patiently and sensitively, before planning and delivering a program of systematic content teaching. How long this takes will be tailored to the individual student's needs from the start.
With the student's knowledge base having been assembled properly, I move to focus on technique, teaching the specific requirements of the subject, level, and exam board, using assessment objectives, model answers, and intense work on the student's homeworks and mock exams to improve their essay technique - something particularly important in the humanities subjects. This approach ensures that by the time the student goes into the exam, they will have the necessary knowledge at their fingertips, and will have the necessary understanding of essay and exam technique to best deploy it. I have been teaching for nearly a decade and have seen this approach achieve startling results.

Thoughout, I ensure that the student's needs are met with patience and persistence. I make sure the student feels relaxed, and I work on their confidence as much as their practical skills in leading them through their subject. I also make sure to maintain effective communication with parents, on the student's current attainment as well as the homework and revision tasks I will be setting. Private one-to-one tutoring can be a near-magical solution to exam problems, as I have seen time and time again, and this approach has the potential to deliver startling results.
