My lesson dynamics are generally fun without losing the important educational content, I like to engage thoroughly with the student and keep things light/conversational. For me it is all about instilling confidence in the student and I tailor to their needs in order to nurture that. The methodologies I use vary, however I favour CLT and ESA. I also like my lessons to contain themes of current affairs wherever relevant, as I think it helps the student to apply their lessons and think about them in a more tangible way. Ways of doing this involve using online articles, a film or discussions within popular culture. My lessons will almost always commence with a short ‘warm up’ activity to ease into the content, highlighting a specific and clear objective for the lesson overall. In my experience students respond better to participating in activities than just being spoken at, so no matter what I’m teaching there will be a supporting activity to solidify the objective in the student’s mind. All of my methods are about helping commit information to the student’s long-term memory, so that we are both getting the most out of our time as possible. I regularly reassess my content and methodology to ensure that I’m keeping up-to-date with modern teaching styles and allowing the student to get the most out of me as they can. I like to get to know the student on a personal level so that my lesson content can relate back to their lives and their experiences.
