I am a qualified teacher and ex-Head of Department, with extensive experience in local state schools. I offer friendly and supportive tuition in English from KS1 through to GCSE, and Maths KS1 to KS3. I can come to your home or provide online support using a simple, safe and robust tuition platform called Bramble, which can be accessed through your Google Chrome browser.
I have been tutoring locally for 6 years, including in local schools for the government's National Tutoring Programme, providing catch up support during and after COVID. I have supported a number of students right through their transition from primary to secondary school, and from lower secondary through to GCSE. Whilst quick 'wins' are always good, my tutoring aims to build a student's confidence and independent learning skills in the longer term. I believe the best progress occurs when a student feels comfortable to have a go, make some mistakes, but then learn from those mistakes in a non-pressured and supportive environment. My thorough knowledge of the primary and secondary curriculum and exam specifications enables me to support children to achieve their very best, and I have successfully supported children through SATs, GCSEs and entrance examinations for local independent schools.
All my tuition sessions are thoughtfully prepared and individually tailored to each student. In English, I am a champion of developing reading for pleasure as a key way to build English skills across all ages, and I will work hard to identify and provide engaging and enjoyable books for even the most reluctant readers.
