I am a SEN Teaching Assistant. I have a first-class honours degree in BSc Psychology from the London School of Economics, and I wish to proceed into educational psychology in the future. Before my undergraduate degree, I completed the International Baccalaureate program with 43/45 overall, and a 7/7 in English Language and Literature. Since then, I have supplemented this knowledge with various post-grad courses on creative writing, critical literary analysis and linguistics.
I have experience working with students aged 4-25, thus I feel confident with a wide range of capabilities, barriers and levels. I have experience preparing students for varying levels of English exams, such as Functional Skills, GCSEs, A Levels and IELTS. Because of this, my approach to teaching is shaped entirely by the student's wants, needs and abilities. For example, if you are an adult who would like to work on practicing conversational English, a less formal, dialogue-based lesson to focus on your listening and speaking skills. However, if you are preparing for your GCSEs and have a clear goal such as to bring your grade from a 2 to 5 within a 12 week timeframe, then I would devise a time-appropriate curriculum focusing on your learning gaps with a focus on exam tips, possible questions, so on and so forth.
I believe in critical pedagogies in teaching, thus I think learning should be an active process for the pupil. This means the lessons are shaped as much by the pupil as they are by me. I would like my pupils to be vocal about their needs, their approach to learning and their experience so we can craft the perfect learning dynamic and environment for them together.
