I can teach online and in person and use a range of strategies to deliver lesson content in a structured and understandable way. I pride myself on being adaptable with my lesson plans and working at the pace that the student learns best. For the first session, I will normally give the student a learning styles assessment as well as an assessment for the subject they require teaching in. This is to give me an idea of topics of weakness. Any information in this regard is also greatly beneficial for me to get an idea of the student's needs, which is in addition to the initial consultation. Generally speaking, the structure goes like this:
Pre-session: Contact with parents/student (I collect information regarding the topic the student wants covered or the area of practice) Resource collection (I get questions and create model answers for the topic requested) Lesson Plan creation (I create a lesson plan based on the previous 2 steps)
Session: Previous session review (warm-up questions based on last lesson) Teaching content/revision (I cover gaps in knowledge for the topic(s) requested) Practice questions (the student is given questions that gradually test their knowledge; there's no rush; I always match the student's pace) Wind-down (normally a question that tests the students' understanding of everything covered that session)
Post-session: Detailed report highlighting positives and works in-progress Feedback (I'm always looking to improve and adapt, so if the student/parent wants to change aspects of the session, I'm always open to suggestions)
Tools: I use digital tools like interactive whiteboards and graphing software to help students visualise topics. I also use a variety of colours to point out key information. I am comfortable using most of the call software to deliver lessons online. In person or online, I make a point to create an environment where the student feels at ease and engaged in learning. I've been trained in behavioural, organisational and communication techniques. I lean more heavily into visual, practical, audio and written teaching methods based on the students' learning style.
