Dominic Gill

I am a secondary Geography specialist and Early Career Teacher with Qualified Teacher Status, currently completing a PGCE at Birmingham Newman University alongside a PGCPSE with Distinction from The Open University. I teach the full AQA GCSE Geography specification to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 classes at a secondary academy in Dudley, and I bring four years of international teaching experience from Hong Kong, where I worked in bilingual and multicultural classrooms.

My lessons are built around Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction. I use structured I, We, You modelling to move students from guided practice to independent mastery, alongside regular retrieval practice and carefully scaffolded questioning that builds toward high tariff six and nine mark evaluate questions. I pay close attention to literacy, using tiered academic vocabulary and dual coded graphic organisers so that demanding content stays accessible, and I am experienced in supporting students with EAL, SEND and Pupil Premium needs.

I am comfortable working across AQA, Edexcel and IB specifications, and I bring practical GIS skills using ArcGIS Pro and QGIS along with experience of enquiry led fieldwork. Whether a student needs help building exam technique for GCSE, developing confidence with extended writing, or strengthening foundational geographical knowledge, I tailor each session to their specific needs and track progress closely using clear, evidence based targets.

Outside the classroom, I have volunteered with the RSPB on farmland bird surveys, mentored refugees and disadvantaged young people in the UK and Hong Kong, and supported vulnerable children through the McCarthy Trust. I bring the same patience, structure and care to every tutoring session, and I look forward to helping your child build the knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in Geography.
