I have taught mathematics in an international school for 17 years and have 20 years of tutoring students online of all levels. My main expertise is with GCSE, A-levels and IB curriculum. I am currently an examiner as well. During my lessons, I encourage students to get involved as much as possible and I create interactive sessions and always provide all the notes to each students afterwards. I often assign homework based on the lesson provided in order to ensure that the concepts have been grasped at a high level. Each student is different and requires individualized sessions so our first lesson together will involve a diagnostic assessment of each student's strengths and weaknesses. Each subsequent lesson will involve a recap and review of the previous one and a discussion of the assigned homework. My personal philosophy is to teach mathematics for understanding rather than memorization as this sets up students to succeed in both the short and long terms. I also use my personal online tablet to ensure all the writing is clear and legible. I typically have multiple approaches to teach different concepts within the mathematics curriculum in case the first approach doesn't "click" with the student. I often use graphs and diagrams to provide background information as well as to provide a visual representation to the concepts presented. Finally, I want to make learning about mathematics a fun and enjoyable experience for students so I am always attempting to connect the topics to real-world situations so students can see how they can apply them to their potential future careers.
