What to Expect from My Photography Lessons
My lessons are designed to be engaging, practical, and tailored to each student’s individual goals. Whether you are a complete beginner or studying for a qualification or looking to develop an existing body of work, I create a supportive and encouraging environment where you can grow both technically and creatively.
Lesson Format
I offer a balance of discussion, hands-on practice, and constructive feedback. Sessions often include:
Exploring photography theory and visual storytelling
Demonstrations of techniques using different equipment and approaches
Practical assignments to develop your skills and confidence
Reviewing and critiquing your work
Guidance on developing personal projects and portfolios
Content and Approach
My lessons cover both the technical foundations of photography, such as composition, lighting, and camera control, and the creative aspects, including concept development and storytelling. I also focus on helping you find your own visual voice while understanding how photography connects to the wider creative industries.
My Experience
With over 30 years of experience as a documentary and editorial photographer, I bring real-world insight into the classroom. My work has been published internationally in books, magazines, and newspapers, and exhibited across the United Kingdom. Alongside my photography practice, I have taught for more than three decades at colleges and universities, supporting students of all levels to develop their skills and confidence.
The Learning Experience
My goal is to create a collaborative and inspiring space where you feel free to experiment, take risks, and ask questions. I believe learning photography is as much about exploration and curiosity as it is about mastering techniques. By the end of our sessions, you will have not only a stronger technical understanding but also a deeper connection to your own creative vision.
