Deborah’s lessons are patient, flexible and shaped entirely around the student and where they are at that moment. If a student needs a refresher, she opens with a starter or recap. If they’re feeling confident, she stretches them with harder versions of the topic. If a topic is completely new, she starts from the basics and builds up step by step. She also uses a traffic-light check, where students rate topics red, amber or green, so lessons always target the areas that need the most work.
Deborah never minds explaining something again, or in a different way, until it clicks. Exam technique is built into every lesson: students practise with real past paper questions and learn how to read what the question is asking, show their working, and pick up every mark they can.
Lessons take place on Microsoft Teams, where Deborah teaches using GoodNotes on a shared screen, so students can rewatch explanations whenever they need to. She uses past papers and freely available online resources, so everything stays accessible at no extra cost to families.
Deborah gives extra time and patience to students who find a subject difficult, and creates a calm, judgement-free space where they feel comfortable asking questions. She is always honest with parents about what will genuinely help their child. She does not currently offer specialist SEN support, and will be upfront if she feels online tutoring isn’t the right fit, so families can find the best support for their child.
After each lesson, parents receive a progress report, and homework can be set free of charge.
