Hello,
I am a professional mathematics tutor with a PGCE and QTS (qualified teacher status). I have experience as a full time mathematics teacher at a mainstream secondary school (one of the best in the country). I have taught mathematics to hundreds of students of a range of abilities from key stage 3 all the way to key stage 5 (specialising in pure mathematics and mechanics at AS and A level).
My approach to teaching mathematics is to ground the concepts that I am teaching in real life scenarios that my students are familiar with. I believe that this approach helps my students to understand and retain the concepts they have been taught, as they have a grounding in something they are already familiar with.
I also believe in playing a facilitative role when teaching. This involves leading the student to arrive at conclusions themselves and giving prompts as needed. This approach allows my students to grow into independent mathematicians who are capable of applying what I have taught them to new contexts that they may not have encountered before. This is especially important for students aiming to achieve top grades.
Above all, I like to emphasize the fun and creative aspects of solving mathematics problems, which I believe to be underemphasized in wider society. Solving problems is meant to be fun, as is trying new and novel ways to tackle challenges. These values are the epitome of my philosophy in teaching mathematics.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to helping you on your mathematical journey.
