Dan Tinsley

Hi, I’m Dan, a drummer and musician from the West Midlands. I’m passionate about drums and music, and I’d love to help other people enjoy playing and develop their skills. I have completed a Level 4 Diploma in Music Performance and have had many years of experience learning, practising and performing drums in different musical situations.

My approach to teaching is relaxed, friendly and personalised. I don’t think every student should be taught exactly the same way, so I would take the time to understand what you want to get from playing drums and build lessons around that. Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to drums after a break, or already have some experience, I can help you work towards your goals.

Lessons can cover a wide range of areas depending on what you are interested in. This could include basic technique, coordination, timing, rhythm, reading drum music, fills, grooves, playing along to songs and developing your confidence behind the kit. I’m particularly interested in helping students understand groove, dynamics and how to play musically rather than simply playing as many notes as possible.

I also have experience performing in live environments, including working with other musicians and playing different styles of music. I believe this practical experience is something I can bring into lessons, especially for students who want to eventually play with other people or perform live.

As someone who has been a student myself, I understand that learning an instrument can sometimes feel difficult or frustrating. I want my lessons to be enjoyable while still giving you clear things to work on and a sense of progress from lesson to lesson.

Most importantly, I want you to enjoy playing the drums. I’ll always try to make lessons positive, encouraging and suited to you, while helping you become a more confident and capable drummer.
