I use a variety of methods, resources and mediums to ensure learning is accessible and engaging for all. When starting with a new learner, I conduct a low-stakes assessment to determine the learner’s level and identify any gaps or misconceptions. This can then be used to support me in planning specific and relevant lessons based on the learner as an individual. My lesson structure entails teacher input, guided practise and then independent work with teacher input if and when needed. Learning can be, and should be, fun and meaningful. Therefore, I embed a variety of methods including games, quizzes, physical and digital tools and more to encourage the learner to develop a secure understanding on various concepts. I also revisit key ideas and concepts to ensure the learning is embedded. Retrieving previously learnt materials is proven to support the learning to become embedded in the long-term memory. If the tutoring is to prepare the learner for a specific test or exam, such as Year 6 SATs or 11+, I would also teach the children how to tackle test style questions and explore previous papers to prepare the child for the test. This would also include supporting the child with any anxieties surrounding sitting the tests and what to expect on the day. I have a deep understanding of the National Curriculum and I am experienced with tailoring learning to meet the needs of a wide range of learners. I use my skills and knowledge from my teaching career to ensure my lessons are adaptive, personalised and effective for the individual.
