Whether you are a student preparing for a task-based exam or a professional preparing to work with a new French-speaking client, let's not jump straight into vocabulary lists.
I will the lessons using the GROW (Grow-Reality-Options-Will) coaching model to create learning clarity, ownership, and momentum.
Goal:
At the beginning of each lesson, and the first one in particular, I will ask, “By the end of this session, what would you like to confidently do in French?”
If you aim to talk about a specific topic or deliver a specific task, such as introducing yourself and what you are going to do, or describe your business role in a clear, natural way. This turns a vague desire (“improve my French”) into a concrete, achievable target.
Reality:
We immediately explore your current ability. If you have the basics for greeting people and describe your work, but struggle to form fluid sentences, then I will invite reflection: “What feels easy, and what feels awkward?” We can identify you lacks connectors and confidence in this way.
Options:
Together we will work out what may better work for you: practising a short script, role-playing a meeting, learning key verbs, or recording a self-introduction. You may choose a mix of role-play and targeted vocabulary building.
Will (Way Forward):
Using your key learning objective, you commit to a specific action: practising a 45-second introduction daily for a week and using it next time we meet or you meet another French student. I will ask "What will help you stick to this?" You may set yourself a reminder and agree to share a recording or arrange small practice sessions with me for feedback and to build practical experience.
