About me

As your tutor, the first lesson wouldn’t feel like a maths test. It’ll be more of a reset. I’ll ask a few simple questions to understand how you learn, what topics feel annoying or confusing, and what usually happens when you get stuck. I also like to know what you’re into outside school, because it helps me explain maths in a way that actually makes sense to you, not just in the way the textbook...
As your tutor, the first lesson wouldn’t feel like a maths test. It’ll be more of a reset. I’ll ask a few simple questions to understand how you learn, what topics feel annoying or confusing, and what usually happens when you get stuck. I also like to know what you’re into outside school, because it helps me explain maths in a way that actually makes sense to you, not just in the way the textbook says it.

A lot of students at GCSE struggle with the same things at first: fractions, percentages, ratio, negative numbers, rearranging equations, and worded problems that feel like they’re written in another language. Higher tier can add pressure because it expects you to combine topics, not just remember steps. That’s why we focus on understanding, not cramming.

In lessons, we keep it simple and structured:

We start with a quick recap so you don’t forget what we covered last time.

We take one topic at a time and break it into small steps you can actually follow.

We practise together first, then you try it on your own, with support.

We finish with exam-style questions so you get used to the way GCSE questions are phrased.

If you’re aiming for a grade 6 or higher, we’ll work on the topics that usually make the biggest difference, like algebraic manipulation, simultaneous equations, quadratics, trigonometry, and multi-step problem solving. I’ll show you how to spot patterns, choose the right method, and avoid the common mistakes that cost marks.

My teaching style will change depending on the type of student you are, but the goal stays the same: to make the topic feel clear, make the questions feel familiar, and build the confidence that helps you perform properly in exams.
