I have been a secondary school teacher since 1985. Throughout that time I have taught in the UK, Spain and the Middle East. Responsibilities have been from teacher, Head of Department, Head of Secondary all the way to Assistant Headmaster. As a graduate in computing my early career was as a teacher of ICT/computer science but always with maths as a secondary subject. Since 2008 I have taught only mathematics with 11 of those years as Head of Mathematics.
I am a published author of mathematical textbooks for KS3 and KS4, writing Collins/Letts. A good number of these are currently in print. This provides me – and you – with a wealth of experience and material.
A concern of mine is maths anxiety and for this reason I am more than happy to teach students who struggle whether at KS3 or KS4. I have strong pass rate with students at any level.
The only way that you can become confident and competent in mathematics is by actually doing questions. My lessons are not full of gimmicks, or accompanied by wonderful, technical PowerPoint presentations. What you will receive from me are simple, concrete explanations. I will show you how to maximise your scores on tests; how to present your reasoning and working out that will match the mark scheme expectations. You will get plenty of practice to take you to the level that you aspire to. Targets set will be realistic, specific and attainable. You will receive an individual plan or pathway to the end point you are aiming for.
