Claire Rhodes

I am a highly motivated, dedicated, hardworking and resilient Spanish and French teacher with a degree in Spanish studies with Catalan and a range of experience teaching Modern Foreign Languages. I have a great deal to offer based upon my subject expertise, skills, and experience. I am extremely passionate about language learning. I studied German at High School obtaining a Grade B at GCSE. From a young age I have always been passionate about Languages and Cultures. I am highly organised, reliable, resilient and caring. I take great pride in being able to inspire and instil a strong work ethic in my learners and helping them to thrive as autonomous and confident linguists.

My teaching style is engaging, energetic and thorough to provide a stimulating and enrichening language learning experience. My lessons are well structured, well-paced and highly ambitious. I include stretch and challenge tasks for higher ability learners and use scaffolding effectively to support weaker learners. My questioning techniques and AFL are purposeful, responsive, and timely. I always plan silent work within my lessons to promote a calm and focussed learning climate. I give clear, concise instructions and model relentlessly to ensure smooth transitions between activities. I establish consistent, predictable routines. I am very driven by the Arts especially film, music, dance and theatre and view these as a relevant, engaging and extremely useful part of learning a foreign language and culture. Promoting cultural capital is one of my strengths.
