I qualified from South Thames College as an ESOL Tutor in 2023. I have since worked at South Thames College, London and Wandsworth Lifelong Learning, as an ESOL Tutor. My experience includes:
- Mixed Level Groups - teaching new learners with a range of abilities
- E1 Writing, Reading, Speaking & Listening (taught to exam level)
- E2/E3 Grammar and conversational skills
- L1 Writing, Reading, Speaking & Listening (taught to exam level)
- E3/L1 Digital Skills for ESOL (taught to exam level)
My experience has taught me that no two students or student groups are the same. Each lesson is best tailored to their needs. It is also important to use a variety of sources and methods, and to point student to further resources to continue learning English outside of lessons. There are many excellent, free resources available and I am happy to act as a guide to these.
Prior to teaching I worked in IT for 20 years, until deciding on a career change. I love teaching so much more. I find some of my IT skills useful as a teacher too, for example using tools to create visualisations of tricky grammar, which has gone down well with my students.
