I have 25 years experience in education as a primary school teacher and second language teacher. I feel competent in teaching all ages especially with English language or Literature as this was my speciality at university. Depending on the needs of the student we would either have a component of grammar and conversational English or if help with literature is needed we would discuss the novel/poem and analyse possible exam questions and how to answer them.
I have various textbooks/online work that we could also work through depending on the level and requirements for each student. I would hope to streamline the lesson to suit the individual needs of each particular student.
Regards second language students we could improvise and act out certain conversational situations. For example:appointment with doctor, restaurant, work scenarios. We could concentrate on phonics or pronunciation when required. We could discuss newspaper articles so that context is given and general conversational skills.
For GCSE or further studies we would discuss novel as a whole and then character analysis, plot and themes.
