I teach using Direct Instruction, which is the 'route 1' evidence-informed approach to teaching students in a way which makes it most likely that they will retain knowledge and be able to use it with fluency.
I use retrieval practice to ensure that we don't just cover the curriculum, we master each element of the curriculum. I break down the entire curriculum domain into small, manageable chunks, and sequence lessons iteratively and thoughtfully.
It's also important to make sure that I know exactly what students have understood, and where there are misconceptions. I'll frequently ask questions and check for understanding during our tutoring sessions.
This is a new tutoring business for me, done alongside my main job which is training teachers. I work for the largest initial teacher training provider in England as a manager. Because this is a brand new business, and I'm looking to build a portfolio of recommendations, the price per hour is very competitive.
