I like to start by ensuring students are very familiar with the exam format. Understanding how to approach exams through timing, planning, and leaving time to check at the end is incredibly important. We will ensure that key quotes are memorised and analysed thoroughly, and work on how to best integrate those quotes into exam writing. I have also worked as an exam marker for the last three years, which means I've done fairly intensive training to understand what produces strong results in the exams.
I am more than happy to meet students where they are in terms of skill and confidence -- I have taught top set and bottom set, and my approach is always the same in terms of consistency. Whether the goal is to ensure strong enough skills for a pass, or aiming for those higher grades, we will ensure skills are exactly where they need to be to provide confidence during the exam period. I am also happy to review mock exams, as well as any work produced in between tutoring sessions - these can be marked in depth, or used to provide verbal feedback in following sessions in order to ensure it's incredibly clear where any gaps are, and how we address them successfully.
Additionally, I am happy to review the entirety of the exam mark scheme to ensure clarity for students in what it is they need to be honing their skills around. I would also like to understand what skills are being encouraged in regular lessons to make sure there is no clashing information, and students do not become muddled in their approach.
