My lessons are designed to be interactive, engaging and tailored to the individual student. Before starting, I would discuss the student’s goals, current level and any areas they particularly struggle with so that lessons can be adapted to their needs.
A typical lesson may involve reviewing a topic together, breaking down more difficult concepts into manageable sections, and then using questions and activities to check understanding. I believe actively engaging with the content is much more effective than simply listening, so I encourage students to ask plenty of questions and explain concepts back to me in their own words.
For students preparing for exams, lessons can also focus on exam-style questions, mark schemes and exam technique. I can help students understand exactly what examiners are looking for and identify common mistakes that may be losing them marks. I am also happy to support students with revision planning and effective study techniques, including active recall and spaced repetition.
The overall format of lessons is flexible and can change depending on what works best for each student. My aim is to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and building confidence in Biology.
I understand that every student learns differently, so I am always happy to adapt my teaching style and lesson structure accordingly. I want lessons to feel productive but enjoyable, helping students feel more confident over time. Progress can be reviewed regularly, allowing future lessons to focus on areas where further support is needed.
