I ‘facilitate-learning’ which means I ensure I reveal what has not been fully understood and plug that gap in ways that enable new learning to stay learnt. I personalise each session. I monitor each session, staying alert to what is the current secured understanding. I build bridges to the new learning to increase confidence and gain mastery over every topic. I provide individual homework and constant support. I would request a WhatsApp group with the parent, learner and I. This enables files of work, pictures of students attempts and my solutions to be shared outside of the weekly session. This safely net of support increases the profile of maths in the student life and ensures confidence and mastery over every question and topic.
I have over 30 years in the education sector. I have worked in mainstream schools and private schools. I have been involved in alternative provisions with disaffected students. I have taught in hospitals and with students who are unable to access education due to a medical condition, like cancer or anxiety, etc. I have worked on three continents and lived in Kenya, Spain, Ecuador, Gran Canária, Portugal (Braga), Azerbaijan, Portugal (Porto) and Guernsey. Each time in an international British schools delivering the National Curriculum as well as examination courses for GCSE and A Level syllabi. I have acquired many skills and abilities throughout my working life. Now I am semi-retired and prefer to invest in the right student to ensure that my expertise is continued to be valued.
