Hello! I’m Charlie, great to meet you!
I am a Music Technology student with more than 3 years experience in teaching the guitar/bass. I am currently studying at London College of Music, and am a Grade 8+ standard.
I love teaching, and have now taught over 200 students. I know when you are starting out on a new instrument (or have been learning for a while) that the concepts and techniques can be overwhelming, but I aim to adapt to your level and keep lessons fun and engaging. I have taught in schools and am fully DBS checked, so whether you are 6 or 60, I am excited to help you along your musical journey!
When I am not teaching, I enjoy recording music or playing live with my band - my favourite moments are recording at Abbey Road Studios (where The Beatles and Pink Floyd recorded!), and performing at The New Cross Inn.
The more you enjoy playing, the more you will practice, so it is important that you inform me what music you like!
When I was first learning how to play guitar I found my lessons so much more engaging when we were playing something I knew and listened to at home, which is a methodology I try and bring to my own lessons. Don't worry if a piece sounds hard - I will arrange a simpler version fit to your level, and we can build up to the "real" version as we go along.
I also want to make sure you are a well rounded musician, so in our lessons we will go over essential techniques, music theory, scales, and how to read notation - this will get you to a great level and ensure you can play many different styles, from Jazz, to Metal, to Country.
If you would like to complete some grades, we can work on this together - I have never had a student fail or get below a Merit! Modern guitar exams feature some great contemporary songs on the syllabus, and are a good way to measure your level and progress.
A typical lesson will have us going over whatever pieces you are learning at the moment, then covering some more theory/technical stuff, and finishing off with any questions you have about guitar (remember, there are NO stupid questions!).
