I have experience tutoring at my school in maths and sciences for 2 years now. My lesson format changes to adapt to the student’s learning style, as I want to make lessons as engaging as possible. Primarily, I will explain the concept, before showing a couple of examples so they understand the theory and how to enact it. I will then encourage lots of question practice, particularly for maths, as it helps students become familiar with techniques and exam question styles. I may set homework if I feel the student needs more practice to help consolidate their knowledge.

I achieved A* in GCSE maths, so I understand the GCSE content very well, making me a current tutor. And my experience with in-school tutoring helps me portray that understandably by breaking down larger, more difficult concepts into manageable explanations.

If I am tutoring online, I will either be using an online platform, such as OneNote, to curate lessons the student can access. Alternatively, I can collate PowerPoints of completed lessons after each session if I use paper for working out. If I’m tutoring in-person, most lessons will be on paper, so the student can keep a track able record of their work and become accustomed to exam style workings.
