I have an extensive amount of experience supporting young people both socially & academically over a 24 year period. I have worked with students within mainstream schools both primary and secondary. I have also worked to support students within a variety of alternative provisions. These include Pupil Referral Units (PRU's) Special Educational Needs & Mental Health provisions (SEN & SEN/MH). I have also held positions as a Youth Work Manager providing support & activities within the community for children aged between 8-18 years of age. During these particular posts I have been the Lead Practitioner on residentials focusing on taking inner city young people (some of which were young offenders) to rural settings in an attempt to broaden their social perspective. I have held a position as a Detached Youth Worker, which involved working within the community engaging young people in their own environment, providing support, information & implementing gang resolution strategies. I have also worked within a few other supportive roles which is testament to my ability to engage with a variety of different people within different backgrounds and settings. This has allowed me develop an adaptive style of tutoring adhering to the particular aptitude, learning style & social background of the particular student im working with. I have also found that building rapport with my students is a very important aspect of achieving good results & can help to build a students confidence and expectations on what can be achieved even after the academic certification being worked on & sometimes even broaden their ambitions of what they felt could be achievable.
