I am happy to hold mock interviews for Biology interviews, asking questions that push conceptual understanding and encourage students to step out of their comfort zone so that nothing will surprise them on their interviews. The key to succeeding in interviews is self-confidence supported by strong foundational understanding, allowing students to tackle anything put in front of them. Interviews are not there to see if students already know the course they are applying for, interviewers want to see if they have the enthusiasm and ability to study the course with more independence and challenge than they have ever experienced.
I am also happy to teach tips and tricks for mastering the UCAT such as effective time management, exam technique and visualisation. We can go through untimed questions first to build confidence in their ability to get the questions right, moving on to timed questions in short bursts to get a grasp of the time pressure. Then, going through any incorrect answers to parse what needs to be changed for high achievement.
I can offer advice on personal statements, such as further reading and encouraging personal enthusiasm for special subjects in their prospective subjects. Admissions boards like to see outside interest that are not necessarily within curricula, which can show understanding of more complex concepts using concrete basic foundation.
Most of my lessons will involve visualisation of concepts using diagrams, starting with a relatively casual 5 minute conversation to assess the student's confidence, knowledge and learning style, allowing me to tailor future lessons.
