Oxbridge Admissions Specialist | Oxford graduate (First Class) | 11 years’ teaching experience

Advert description
Applying to Oxford or Cambridge is a daunting prospect for many – but I’ve experienced the process from the inside out, both as an applicant and from within Oxford’s admissions process. I graduated with First-Class Honours in Music from the University of Oxford in 2020.

Sessions are highly tailored to the student and their stage of the application process. For interview preparation, I use unseen material and Oxford-style questioning to replicate the experience of being presented with unfamiliar ideas and having to work through them aloud. I focus particularly on helping students develop the ability to pause, think critically, test an idea, respond to challenge, and change their mind when the evidence requires it.

For Music applicants, sessions can cover areas including harmony and analysis, score reading, historical musicology, aesthetics, critical theory, ethnomusicology, and broader academic discussion. I can also draw directly on my own Oxford tutorials and experience of the Music course when developing bespoke materials.

For personal statements and written work, I provide detailed, constructive feedback focused on argument, intellectual engagement, clarity, and academic depth rather than simply correcting wording.

For students who are earlier in the process, sessions can focus on understanding the Oxford or Cambridge environment, developing academic confidence, exploring their subject beyond the school curriculum, and building the habits of thought that will serve them well when the application process arrives.

My aim throughout is to make the preparation challenging but constructive: to help students become more confident thinkers rather than simply more rehearsed candidates.

David is an inspiring music teacher. He is flexible about what music a student wants to learn and structures the lesson around their goals. He encourages improvisation and any student, whatever their level, can contribute to create a piece of music. His lessons are all about enjoying learning and playing music.

My son was one of first David's students, just after he graduated from university. I was impressed by his natural talents both as a musician and a teacher. From the very beginning he had a clear idea of how to motivate and engage with students, even young primary school children. He still teaches my son, who has progressed substantially on the piano. I have recommended him to several families.

David is a very dedicated and professional piano teacher. My son Nauman has been learning to play the piano both in person and on line for the past three years with him. I am impressed with the fact Nauman actually enjoys his lessons, and is now studying for his ABRSM grade 4. I would have no hesitations in recommending David as piano teacher both to newbies and more experienced players.
