Understanding biological concepts often aids in memorising specific content, so while lesson content will cover specific within a topic, all lessons will ensure foundational understanding for any topic is well covered.
Lessons will be tailored around the needs and level of each student (National 4/5, Higher, Advanced Higher, any life science undergraduate years 1 and 2 OR human biology/physiology undergraduate year 3), hence this will be set by the student, through current level of education and grade goals for exams/future career/higher education.
Tailored ways to engage with coursework outside of textbooks and class notes will be provided if required (Work sheets, key information handouts, flash cards, critical analysis work for those in higher education).
Upon identification of areas that need to be covered by the student each lesson will take these topic by topic. This will begin with the student explaining their current understanding of the topic which will then be explained in further detail or corrected through seminar style lecturing to prevent overwhelming and ensure a collaborative approach to the learning experience.
Lessons will then test understanding of the topic after initial lecture and identify areas for further explanation or that require deeper understanding which will be the focus for the rest of the session. Further work in guided learning will utilise past papers at the relevant level that can be completed ahead of time for marking or worked through with students who struggle with formatting and approaching long-answer past paper questions.
