My lessons are designed to make maths engaging, logical, and confidence-building. I focus on helping students understand the why behind mathematical ideas rather than simply memorising methods. Each session begins with a short recap to reinforce key concepts, followed by guided problem-solving and interactive discussion. I often use analogies and visual imagery to explain complex topics — a skill I’ve developed during my PhD as a control engineer working with both mathematicians and biologists, where clear communication is essential.

I have previously tutored GCSE students and helped run A-level maths support sessions while at school. I have also guided students preparing for Oxbridge entrance exams and supported undergraduates and master’s students throughout my PhD. These experiences have taught me how to adapt my teaching to a wide range of abilities and learning styles.

I understand that many students feel maths is “impossible” — just as I once felt reading was impossible due to severe dyslexia. Yet, through developing my own learning strategies, I’ve gone on to publish several scientific papers. This has shaped my approach as a tutor: helping students discover the learning methods that work best for them.

Most sessions are one-to-one, either online or in person around Sheffield. I provide structured summaries and practice materials after each lesson, ensuring steady progress and growing confidence. My goal is for every student to leave feeling not only more capable in maths, but also empowered to tackle challenges with resilience and curiosity — both in and beyond the classroom.
