If it is a subject area new to the student I go through the core concepts of the the subject first. Slowly and with plenty of time for the student to ask any questions. Worked examples where I can provide help are a great way for students to learn the processes and build confidence. Asking students to explain everything they are doing along the way helps them to consolidate their understanding.
If the student wants help with a subject they already know then I use problems to identify the areas where they need help and then focus on building confidence specifically in these areas.

I love using visual learning techniques to help students better understand the core concepts and allow them to apply them to any exam question.

Different people are after different outcomes and I can tailor my lessons to exam readiness or share my enthusiasm to learn with new and exciting topics.
