I am a private GCSE science tutor, I have taught GCSE students aged 14-16. My ability to digest and explain complex ideas in simple terms has improved dramatically. There are times when I think I’ve learnt just as much, if not more than my student!
My teaching technique revolves around practising a lot of exam styled questions. And polish the theory work obtained from previous lessons taught from the students school.
Every student learns in different ways, and there’s a teaching style for every different learner. That’s why I try to get to know my students a little more so they can enjoy and comprehend the lesson together.
Usually the first half an hour of my lesson of theory work and the last half an hour is pure exam questions. I want to ensure that my student is capable of applying their knowledge into a the problem solving world.
We will also go through past exam papers to increase the student confidence and to understand the areas the students needs to improve in.
I also encourage students to ask random fun questions about science, it makes the lesson even more interesting. For example, a students of mine asked, “how do glow sticks glow?”, “how do you make fireworks of different colours?” And, “why do we put salt on icy roads?”
Makes you think a little more that chemistry is all around us
I enjoy teaching chemistry as it’s my major, soon to complete my bachelor in the nanotechnology field. And I want other students bro enjoy chemistry just as much as I do!
