I like going through past papers to see the students strengths and weaknesses and clearly identify the weaknesses to help them improve. I also like videos as they helped me achieve my grade and give me greater understanding on the area I was working on. Any weaknesses I would explain the topic and ensure the student understands by asking them more questions. I have tutored my brothers who are in years 3 & 4 and currently tutor a year 10 student studying for GCSE’s.
I prefer active lessons where we go through question by question and understand each point instead of sitting through a whole paper and answering it as you may not know where you went wrong so I would mark along as we do the question. If the student doesn’t understand a specific topic I’ll explain the content from scratch and develop it to a level where they can answer questions which could possibly come up on their papers. So far I have seen quite a lot of progress on the students I currently tutor and I keep the lessons pretty friendly and not too formal to ensure the student actually enjoys learning with me and focuses whilst enjoying the work. I am hoping to apply to ucl, kings or imperial for university and do medicine which requires a lot of determination and discipline. I understand the requirements of the exam boards to get the grades higher. GCSEs can be done easy when learning with the right person.
