I will have materials in the class with vocabulary etc., but I like to use this as a baseline for conversational English, so the students can apply the things they learn to their own lives/ frames of reference. I encourage questions always, be it about the topic at hand, or grammar issues, or anything students wish to know about the UK or myself (within reason). I have found this approach to have exceptional results, as it becomes less of a chore to learn when discussing interesting topics. As I get to know a student more, the materials can be adjusted to fit what would be most beneficial to them.
