I use the Fiddle Time series initially and then move on to ABRSM grades with a focus on widening the students repertoire and fully developing technique using etude books, scales, sight reading, aural and lots of new pieces.
First lessons for beginners will include how to hold the violin and bow, how to count beats and clap a steady pulse, the basics of rhythm and tempo, and the very basics of reading sheet music all using Fiddle Time Starters, followed by Fiddle Time Joggers and lastly Fiddle Time Sprinters. These are supplemented with the Theory Made Easy series to help guide children in their theory education as well. For older students, studying the AB Guide to Music Theory will be incorporated into the lessons and homework
If you are already past beginner stage I will ask that you send through what you’re currently working on, I will listen to you play, assess you level and we will begin incorporating appropriate studies and exercises and continue on a path to help you keep improving. I use Sevcik for all levels and Kreutzer and Mazas study books for higher levels. For widening repertoire I use the Barbara Barber books as well as some other repertoire collections books focusing on certain genres such as The Romantic Violinist by Sheila M. Nelson and the Baroque Violin Pieces books 1-3 by Richard Jones.
Some of these books we won’t go through the entireties meaning sometimes I can just send photos of a few pages but otherwise, please be prepared to purchase these books. They can be bought very cheaply secondhand.
Lastly, please note I only use Google Meet for lessons.
