My lessons are designed to be engaging and supportive and tailored to different students needs. I start by understanding what the student is currently learning/studying, where they feel less confident and then build the lessons from there through focusing on strengthening those weaker areas while also reinforcing what they already feel confident with.
I structure lessons with a mix of explanation, guided practice and independent work that I will mark towards the end and I always encourage questions so students feel comfortable and involved in their work throughout. I adapt lessons depending on needs from building reading and writing skills with younger learners to developing essay writing, analysis and exam techniques for older students.
For younger students, I focus on making lessons interactive through reading activities, creative writing and games that build confidence in phonics, spelling and comprehension skills. For older students, I structure lessons around clear explanations, guided practice and exam style questions which help them develop analytical skills, writing structure and understanding of texts.
I always begin through identifying topics the student is struggling with then breaking that down into small and simple steps so the problem becomes more manageable and easier to solve. I aim to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel confident expressing their ideas.
My aim is not only to help students improve academically (despite that being a very big aim), but also to build their confidence and enjoyment of English so they feel more capable both in lesson and in exams.
