I aim to lay a foundation of critical skills and components of the subject matter appropriate to the student's knowledge and skill level. For instance, if it is a primary or secondary school student who is studying a particular literary text or examining a particular historical event, ensuring that there is an appropriate level of contextual knowledge about not only the subject matter but also the critical skills for comprehending every text or event.
I aim to make the lessons as personalised and specialised for the student as I personally found that schooling often does not address particular nuances and topics that are difficult to grasp as a student. Furthermore, my goal is to take a very practical approach in my teaching style; using relevant contemporary examples, using the interests and passions of each individual student to contextualise the concepts and learnings that the subject matter offers.
Specific to the lesson format, it will be split into 3 portions according to the 1 hour time slot, 20 minutes of instructional and conceptual teaching from me, 20 minutes of questions or further explanations to ensure the student understands the concepts and material, 20 minutes to apply this learning and test how well the student can practically apply the acquired skills and knowledge.
My goal is to ensure that the student not only has the knowledge and comprehension of the subject matter, but also can independently apply the skills and techniques. I want to guide the students but ultimately allow them to take charge of their own learning and retain the knowledge and skills.
