I have a decade's experience teaching literature, mostly adults and higher education learners, but also younger people (UK KS3 and upwards), in the UK, Turkey and Italy. My teaching qualification is Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and I am an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I also have about the same length of experience as copy-editor and translator, working closely with clients and organisations to make their writing as good as it can be.
So, I can work with texts, but I always do it in a personalised way, with the client's specific needs in mind. When it comes to teaching, my main ideal is that a good teacher should first and foremost help the student find a way into the materials, so that s/he will want to learn more about it. To do that, I ask students to tell me a little about themselves, what they know about the topic, why they want to learn more about it, any specific difficulties they may have encountered and what they expect, so we can come up with a personalised plan that will work for you.
If you want something more lecture-like, I can certainly provide that, but my personal preference when it comes to literature and the humanities in general is for more of a conversation, with at least some degree of back-and forth. This is less about learning "the right answers" than about giving high-quality food for the mind and soul, and to do that conversation is essential. Apart from that, just tell me what you need clearly, and I'll do my best to provide something tailored to your needs.
