I have over thirty years of teaching experience in the UK and overseas. My lessons are tailored to the individual. I start with warm ups ( eg A Dozen a Day for beginners through to Hanon and Czerny for more advanced pupils or sometimes just good old scales and arpeggios!) then lead into work on pieces. I like the pupil to think about what they are playing in terms of melody, dynamics, technical elements and musicality. I would expect practice to be on a regular basis of three to five times per week for 20-30 minutes and this is non negotiable. Practice is absolutely essential to make progress.
I also teach skills such as sight reading from beginners to advanced and also some aural tests.
I am very familiar with the ABRSM format for performance and regular exams and also more recently Trinity College Piano Exams also in the format of performance and technical exams.
I am a naturally warm and approachable person and I have a lot of patience and guidance to offer my pupils.
